Hi! My name is Sonee and I am the founder of Petal Life. I am also a Wellness Coach, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, a Certified International Health Coach, and a Registered Aromatherapist™.
I started this endeavor with the mission to Inspire Conscious Living. I believe that with increased knowledge and awareness people will gain the necessary insight to take control of their health and wellness, and be able to live life more deeply, richly, and consciously.
Yes, I Too Have a Blog
I use the term “blog” loosely because what I really provide are articles. But let’s be honest, there is nothing appealing about saying you write wellness articles. It sounds too academic. Although I have to admit that when I first started Petal Life it was an academic pursuit. The first 20 or so posts to this website were part of my Master’s thesis.
Now what I provide you with is information that will help support your health, give you practical tips to improve your wellness, or simply share something that I have discovered within the wellness arena. I do so by researching what science says and relaying it back in a way that is easy to understand. I use scholarly sources and peer-reviewed journals. That just means that the content in the journals gets published by professionals AND gets vetted by professionals, so the information is credible. But, I do add my thoughts and perspective, so it isn’t all about the research.
Unless otherwise noted, most of the images used in the blog posts, and even in some product descriptions, are courtesy of Pixabay or Unsplash, although I have taken a few myself. Professional product photography was done by Corey Terrill.I post a new article every week and write about food, healing, herbs, wellness, remedies, and other interesting information I come across. Some of my most popular posts include
- My Top 5 Go-To Essential Oils
- The Key to Longevity? How I Believe My Grandmother Achieved It
- How to Change How We Shop Part 1
- How to Cope With Loneliness
- How to Stop Negative Thoughts from Taking Over

Aroma Culture Magazine:
Health and wellness was not how I started my career. I spent over 15 years working in spas and hotels, and got the opportunity to work for wonderful companies like Four Seasons Hotels, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, and Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas. I held many hats and worked in operations and training, did a bit of marketing and finance, and opened up new spa locations. I enjoyed every minute of it, but I traveled a great deal and worked long and hard.
The long days and frequent time away from home left me exhausted. It was hard for me to get out of bed in the morning, and on most days I was forced out of bed by my own sneezing. After 15-20 minutes of non-stop sneezing I didn’t have a choice but to get up. I had to drink strong coffee in the morning to get me going, and by 4pm more coffee was the only thing that could keep me from falling asleep. I would get home and feel drained, without the energy to care about what I ate or drank. I longed to get to bed, but when I went to sleep I felt restless and woke up frequently. I also had several other health issues: low thyroid levels, allergies, shortness of breath, frequent headaches that turned to migraines, muscle aches and pains, menstrual irregularities, weight gain, lethargy, and stress levels that went through the roof. After months of medical visits and very expensive testing, I got a few diagnoses, a few inconclusive statements with more tests ahead of me, and a good number of prescriptions to medications I wasn’t willing to take.
Rather than leave my health to chance, I decided to take matters into my own hands. In 2013 I left the hospitality corporate world and began my personal healing journey. I studied herbs, aromatherapy, mindfulness, and wellness, and used this knowledge to support my body to heal from stress and my other ailments. It took time, and it wasn’t easy. I still had to rely on some medication to deal with the symptoms, but I started incorporating natural healing as a support. I experimented with different foods and tried different techniques to reduce stress. I was persistent, and after several months finally got myself to be medication free! I am not done with my healing process, but I sleep through the night, I wake up feeling rested, I am no longer plagued by incessant sneezing, I drink only one cup of coffee or tea a day (with the exception of herbal tea), and have plenty of energy to last me throughout the day. I have a healthy outlook and I am passionate about sharing this approach to life with others. I want others to reach their health and wellness goals, much like I did for myself.
I am deeply passionate about living life to the fullest. I get a sense of fullness from spending time with my family, catching up with my friends, discovering new places, eating a plate of sumptuous food, and drinking a wonderful glass of wine! I am an avid reader, and do the occasional crossword puzzle or cross-stitch pattern (yes, you read that right). I meditate every day, but I don’t sit on a mat and chant. I do yoga, but I don’t practice it every day. I do walk every day. I have recently become a fan of Reiki, crystals, and energy healing, and have uncovered I have a great deal of curiosity for palm reading and tarot cards. But, I am not new-age. I’m just curious about a lot of things.
I hold a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology and Society from Cornell University, a Masters of Management in Hospitality from Cornell University, a Masters of Science in Complementary Alternative Medicine from American College of Healthcare Sciences, and Certificate for Integrative Nutrition from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I am a Registered Aromatherapist™ through the Aromatherapy Registration Council. I am also a Reiki Master.
